The Split WordPress community will host lecturers from Croatia and abroad, as well as visitors from Croatia and the region, for 3 days (2 of which are official) of this most important WordPress event in Croatia.
For the second year in a row, the Croatian WordPress community organizes WordCamp as a central meeting place for Croatian and regional WordPress users. After last year’s successful WordCamp Croatia in Rijeka, this year the WordPress caravan will be hosted by WordCamp Split.
The first thing you will probably notice is the change in the name of the conference – the sign of the country has disappeared from the name, but this is something that is limited by the new rules for organizing WordCamps all over the world, about which the organizer Ivan Blagdan says:
“This year there was a small change compared to last year, in the very name of the event, so this year WordCamp Split 2016 is being organized by the Croatian WordPress community. The change was initiated by the umbrella organization WordCamp Central as part of the unification of the name at the world level, and that is was one of the conditions for holding it under the name WordCamp. We believe that the change is purely cosmetic in nature and conceptually nothing changes. We will continue to act as one community at the level of Croatia and continue to rotate the cities and organizers of WordCamp once a year.”
It is important for the Croatian WordPress community that such a central annual event is not centralized . After Rijeka last year, this year Split (that is, the Split WordPress community) took on the role of organizer.
“Within the idea of an annual rotation of host cities, this year we decided on Split. The local WordPress community in this city is maturing, and an event like WordCamp is the ideal catalyst for its further development. We believe that people will be inspired by the broader context of the WordPress story, through experiences and knowledge of colleagues from the region and the world. Also, the ninth month is ideal for gathering in Split, with good weather, food and the sea. This will surely round off a very high-quality and productive gathering.”
WordCamp Split will take place 3. and September 4 in the premises of the Faculty of Economics in Split, which this year is the organizing partner of WordCamp . The Faculty of Economics with its 4,500 students is the second most important educational institution in Croatia, and as such recognized the importance of this event, not only for Split, but also for the whole of Croatia.
The organizers announce a series of interesting lectures on the conference day, which starts on Saturday at 9 am and ends in the late afternoon at 5:30 pm. There will be something for everyone, from lectures on design, site development in WordPress to success stories in the WordPress world . Sunday is reserved for the so-called Contributor day, where the focus is on learning how we as individuals can help develop WordPress and help other users . After Contributor Day, a guided walk through Split is scheduled.
Traditionally, the day before the (official) WordCamp (September 2) is reserved for free workshops intended for anyone who wants to learn more about WordPress . The schedule of the workshops has not yet been fully defined, but the organizers plan to hold 4 or 6 workshops intended for both beginners and more advanced users .
See you in Split from 2. until 4 September!
