The Smart City Challenge hackathon is a place where students, developers, entrepreneurs and designers interested in making their city a better place can gather in multidisciplinary teams to jointly build innovative solutions for smarter cities.
Smart City Challenge hackathon is a marathon competition that will take place from Friday 16 November to Sunday 18 November at the University of Split as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Participants will have 24 hours to develop a solution (prototype) in one of the given challenges: Internet of Things (IoT), smart homes and buildings, smart transport, smart production, smart environment, smart health, smart citizens.
The competition is organized under the auspices of the Split-Dalmatia County and the City of Split, and the organizers are the Student Entrepreneurial Incubator of the Faculty of Economics in Split, the Entrepreneurial Center Split, the UPiT association and the Lil Code Lab company.
It is important to emphasize that the program was developed in cooperation with the project UIP – 2017 – 05 – 7625: User-oriented (re)design of processes and modeling of information systems on the example of smart city services, which was financed by the Croatian Science Foundation .
Smart City Challenge hackathon it will last 24 hours without a break, and the contestants will be tasked with developing a completely new solution in accordance with the rules of the competition. Everyone can participate, regardless of their education or occupation
After the competition, the teams will have an additional 5 minutes to present their project to the expert jury. In order to enable the contestants to develop as well as possible from idea to project, there are mentors who will further guide them with their knowledge and qualities.
The best teams win prizes and receive further support for the development of their projects through the incubator. The competition has a dual character. On the one hand, it provides an opportunity for teams to develop their idea and project with the help of excellent mentors, and later through the support of partners involved in the project.
Applications last until the 14th. November 2018 The number of participants is limited, about 80 participants are expected, and the results of the applications will be announced on the 14th. November. The competition has no upper age limit, while the lower limit is set at 18 years of age.
