17. and on April 18, another edition in a series took place Hack4Split – a social hackathon whose goal is to find and implement socially useful solutions for the well-being and progress of our local community using the advantages of modern technology. This year the emphasis was on solving problems in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They organized the competition Center for socially useful learning and Student entrepreneurial incubator of the Faculty of Economics in Split together with Business center Split and the company Ensoco, and it took place in SPINIT incubator of the University of Split through three spaces – a conference hall, a coworking space and a rooftop meeting room, respecting epidemiological measures and using the MS Teams platform.

This year’s Hack4Split in a hybrid form brought together 6 teams with 30 competitors of multiple nationalities who, in a cheerful and proactive atmosphere, worked on various social problems, such as the problem of waste textiles ending up in landfills with the aim of reducing the purchase of new clothes and the reuse of old clothes, the problem of urban cats and their disposal from city streets, the problem of monitoring the quality of the marine environment, the problem of disposing of discarded or unused household goods, the problem of developing a transparent and reliable donation system and the problem of energy (in)efficiency of urban residential areas.

At the competition, prizes were awarded in several categories: the first prize for the best elaborated solution went to the team Split4Cats who presented an application for finding and taking care of city cats, then the award for the best design solution went to the team Second Style Around who presented a platform for your personal stylist who owns quality used clothes and an award for the most valuable team and teamwork that went to the team DonatQR for work on the development of a transparent, reliable and easy-to-use system of donating to the needy.
