{"id":5269,"date":"2021-04-30T15:25:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T15:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spi.efst.hr\/applications-open-for-ocean-hackathon-2021-using-digital-data-to-the-sea-we-want\/"},"modified":"2024-01-11T16:52:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T16:52:42","slug":"applications-open-for-ocean-hackathon-2021-using-digital-data-to-the-sea-we-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spi.efst.hr\/en\/applications-open-for-ocean-hackathon-2021-using-digital-data-to-the-sea-we-want\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications open for Ocean Hackathon 2021: using digital data to the sea we want!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">After the excellent success of our teams at last year&#8217;s Ocean Hackathon, the third place won in the grand final of the <a href=\"http:\/\/interiv.unist.hr\/Novosti\/sjajno-tre%C4%87e-mjesto-za-spli%C4%87ane-na-me%C4%91unarodnom-natjecanju-ocean-hackathona\">dock.me<\/a> team and the activities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poslovni.hr\/hrvatska\/splitski-studenti-osmislili-pokretni-prociscivac-mikroplastike-iz-mora-4281783\">C-BRO<\/a> team, the University of Split joined the organization of the competition this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>About the competition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusmer.fr\/Home-4185-0-0-0.html\">Ocean Hackathon <sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> is a 48-hour event during which teams have a unique opportunity to <strong>develop innovative ideas using digital data related to the sea and the coastal area<\/strong> . The competition will take place this year  <strong>from 5 until 7 November<\/strong>  on 5 continents and 18 cities around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>The invitation to apply for the challenge<\/strong> , that is, the topics that will be made available to competitors, has <strong>just been opened<\/strong> , and you can apply  <strong>until 6 June<\/strong>. Competitors can expect a lot of teamwork, learning, fun, and best of all <strong>, valuable prizes<\/strong> and <strong>participation in the grand finale<\/strong> , which will take place in December 2021. Also, the challenge <strong>can be a project that is already under development<\/strong> , and for which you need new expertise and knowledge that you do not possess yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The challenge in Ocean Hackhaton <sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is based on <strong>the use of available digital data<\/strong> . According to their form, digital data can be: nautical charts, photographs, legal aspects and maritime safety, cable locations, wrecks, buoys, sea changes, sea level, oceanographic forecasts, pollution, ecology, physical and chemical characteristics of the coastal area, maritime activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Who can submit a challenge?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The challenge can be submitted <strong>by all natural and legal persons (companies, scientific and research organizations, higher education institutions, associations, students&#8230;)<\/strong> who have <strong>an idea or a problem worth solving<\/strong> , and whose content is close to <strong>the topics of the sea and the coastal area<\/strong> . The goal of the competition is to develop new products and services, test innovative concepts and share knowledge about seas and oceans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>How to report a challenge?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The challenge is registered through the Ocean Hackathon <sup>\u00ae<\/sup> platform <strong>by filling out a short form<\/strong> in English. On the platform, you must first select on the map the city where you are registering the challenge:  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusmer.fr\/Hackathon-2021-4222-0-0-0.html\">https:\/\/www.campusmer.fr\/Hackathon-2021-4222-0-0-0.html<\/a>  after which a new window opens in which you select the option &#8220;I would like to submit a challenge in Split&#8221; and answer a few short questions through which you describe your idea and activities planned for the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Challenges that will be offered to Ocean Hackathon <sup>\u00ae<\/sup> competitors will be selected based on several criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">connection with the sea,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">use of marine data,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">the originality and innovation of the challenge,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">connection between challenges and goals of ocean sustainability,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">with the consent of the challenge owner to attend the final competition.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The applicant of the challenge is the owner of the challenge and during the application he undertakes to be present at the competition itself. The applicant can already have a formed team in the challenge application phase or can emphasize what expertise he lacks in the team, on the basis of which competitors will apply for participation in September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The main organizer of the competition is the Campus mondial de la Mer University in Brest, and the competition in Split is organized <strong>by the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Split<\/strong> with the support <a href=\"http:\/\/www.een.hr\/\">of the European Entrepreneurial Network<\/a> .
